Google just lost this case in Belgium and is an example of how massive companies can get held back and mired by their success. I’ve been professing Yahoo’s greatness to everybody since I read about Panama a few weeks back and I think this case in belgium highlights the trouble Google will have in innovating in the future. Huge companies grow, grow, grow, then start getting sued left right and center for their innovations (infringing on this that or the other) and get bound up internally with red tape, bureaucracy, an environment like this halts dramatic innovation.

Valentines Day 18 years ago was also the day that the first GPS satellite went into orbit, 23 more followed and now we can always know where we are.
” A Sea Knight helicopter that crashed last week northwest of Baghdad was shot down, the U.S. military said Wednesday, reversing earlier statements that it appeared to have been due to mechanical failure.”
Are the Iraqis using better technology to shoot down choppers? There seem to have been a lot of downed choppers recently.
“The Islamic State in Iraq, an umbrella group of Iraqi insurgent groups that includes al-Qaida in Iraq, claimed responsibility for downing the helicopter and issued an Internet video on Feb. 9 it said was proof. The group also claimed the recent downings of two other U.S. helicopters.
The two-minute video showed a helicopter that appears to be a Sea Knight flying. An object trailing smoke is seen in the sky nearby, then the craft bursts into orange and red flames, with a spray of debris emerging from it.”
Not Cool.

The US military is dropping entry requirements to allow criminals and folks who can’t pass their aptitude tests. Meanwhile this girl is demoted for something that isn’t illegal. And, she’s served since 1994.
45 minutes in Garageband has taught me a few things, some of which I should’ve known already. Namely, as Nisha speculated earlier, the song ‘Today’ by Smashing Pumpkins is a buzzkill and doesn’t mash well with ‘Escape‘ by Enrique.
Also, that ‘Escape‘ by Enrique is a really catchy and well produced song, I’ve been going through it one beat at a time and have noticed lots of cool techniques in it. Its perfect Bubble Gum music, perfectly produced with the right amount of percussion, vocoder, timing to make it a surefire hit. While ‘Escape‘ is not excessively stylized, it is meticulously styled in the way great songs are, where surprises are hidden in every corner.
I’ve ended up putting the heavy guitar riff intro from ‘Today’ into the beginning of ‘Escape’ in my mashup, doing a few loops and echo’s at the beginning and then letting Enrique’s wonderful song play out uniterrupted for the remaining three minutes.
It may have been an essentially fruitless project, but now this post will be the number one hit for anyone googling “Enrique Smashing Pumpkins Mashup” and I learnt a whole lot about (a) Enriques production skills and (2) Garageband’s Awesome Audio Editing features.
Baby, you might not be next to me, but I dream of you next to me every night.
This song is cheesy but right on the money. It’ll be on our soundtrack.(with your permission
